Support live music 11-28-2023

Neighbors and friends.

If this was in Sunday Service at Faith Community/Nazarene, it would be a praise report. But since this is just my soapbox once a week, it will just be more of a happenings in the community piece.

After a week of flu for me followed by a week of COVID for Mom, our Thanksgiving dinner looked bleak. Post Toasties and Campbell’s soup. But LeFlore County has some of the finest people in the world residing here. So, we did NOT go hungry. Mom’s neighbors of 40 years, Bimbo and Kim Hales, had their extended family dinner so we got the call that our meals were on the way. It had all the fixing’s – turkey, ham, dressing, sweet taters, cornbread salad and pie. Neighbors helping neighbors. Thanks to you all.

Then minutes after that bountiful harvest, my buddy Bill Scott Jr., pulled up and delivered a similar helping of the Scott family feast. Including Bill’s world famous peanut butter pie and lemon whipped pie. Guess what I am having for breakfast? Thanks Bill for thinking of us and driving from Poteau to deliver it.
Well, I am scheduled for some cosmetic surgery on Tuesday so I prob won’t be at the jazz at the museum that nite. Someone Facebook live a lil’ of it for me. It starts at 6:30 p.m. Donna and David Deaton host this evening of music that’s held in one of the purtiest settings in The Lowry Hotel, The LeFlore County Historical Museum. “The Al Grzech Trio” will play jazz favorites that are on many of your life’s soundtrack. Tunes from the 40’s thru the modern era in the genre of music that can be absorbed and best enjoyed by catching the feeling, the energy and love for each song that these musicians apply. It is truly a joy. Don’t miss it. No cover, NS/ND, drinks and snacks available. What time did I say? It’s 6:30 p.m.!

And after recovering from a lil maintenance on my ticker, I will be celebrating New Years Eve with a Backstage pass at the “Billy Hoffman NYE Bash”at the Reynolds Center in Poteau. “Shady Oak Tribadours”, “Hillbilly Vegas” and “The Asphalt Cowboys” will be making music for the festivities. Dance and all the party favors are included in the ticket price. Some of the proceeds will go to support the LeFlore County Boys and Girls Club. I hope to be wallowing around backstage so “see ya there”! It is my birthday, by the way. Tickets available at 918-647-9178. It will be grand.

Well, rats! Gonna miss another of my very favorite bands ”Live Wire” on Tuesday, too. They will be playing at La Huertas/Poteau. Felisha McKenzie fronts the band singing and playing on several instruments, this week she blows the tuba on a couple of Polka numbers. Come out and enjoy the music and the food is purty good, too. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, “Live Wire” will be at MJ’s Bar and Grill from 8 p.m. to midnite.

Dawn’s Diner will have “The Stagemasters” on Friday for the dance with dinner. This band has become a favorite at Dawn’s so get there early for a good seat. Then on Saturday, “Big Marty and the Dirty Dogs” take the stage and fill the dancefloor. Their music covers country to R&R. great meal-Awesome music at Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak this weekend. Music starts at 6 p.m. both nites.

“Oklahoma Moon” will be playing Friday and Saturday at the Har-ber Village Museum in Grove. Music from 6-8 p.m. For info call 918-786-6446.

“Country Express” will be at the Fort Smith Senior Activity Center Friday. It’s a great place to dance and the band plays country with a lil’ bit of rock-a-billy mixed in. Music kicks off at 7 p.m.

My friends, “Shady Oak Tribadours” will be at the New Blaine VFW for the dance on Saturday. These guys do it all. From slow-dancin’ to shakin’ all over kinda music. Music starts at 7 p.m.

That ain’t all I got to say and I hope it ain’t the last I have to say. God’s will be done. It has been a blast. Contact me at 918-649-5736 or [email protected]. Thanks.
